Nine Pound Hammer
(intermediate level)
If you're familiar with 'Travis Picking' then this is the lesson for you. 'Nine Pound Hammer' is a wonderful example of the Piedmont, alternating bass style that used Merle Travis's name as it's namesake.
You'll learn this entire song, from start to finish with some walking bass lines thrown in for good measure.
You'll also learn a fun solo that's a real showstopper with some more moving bass lines, diminished chords, voice leading and the use of passing tones which will really enhance your playing.
This lesson was designed for students at an intermediate level of fingerpicking skills... if you can play a basic melody over an alternating bass then that's all you'll need.
