Fingerpicking Sun Records
Sam Phillips named his record company - Sun Records - as a way of saying there now is a new day with a new beginning. He was fair and honest and it was these qualities that attracted artists like Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash... among many others.
I took some of my favorite songs from these artists and created guitar arrangements which I think you'll really enjoy learning. I've also added some nifty solos to play!
I think these tunes will be fun to pick and you'll learn a bunch of new ideas along the way!
Take a quick look at my video to see what you'll be learning. Each lesson contains tab/notation and instructional movies which you can easily download or stream. You'll learn how to play the following songs:
• 'I Walk The Line' - Johnny Cash - Click HERE to download the tab.
Here you'll learn how to incorporate the melody of a song within moveable chord shapes along the fingerboard.
• 'You Win Again' - Jerry Lee Lewis
Probably one of Jerry's sweetest country tunes to be recorded. As you can see in the video above, you'll learn how to add a melody to a song while playing a steady, alternating bass. I've also included a few 'pedal steel' licks in there for you.
• That's Alright Now Mama - Elvis Presley - (originally composed by Big Boy Crudup).
A 'hit record' recorded by Elvis and his band by accident! They were simply jamming away not realizing a tape machine was recording them. Not only will you learn how to play single line melodies on top of a alternating bass, but I've added a very cool solo which I know you'll enjoy learning.
• Mystery Train - Elvis Presley - (originally composed by Junior Parker).
I think there's nothing more exciting than learning how to fingerpick the 'Mystery Train Lick' which will be immediately recognizable to you and impress anyone listening to you play it. I've also transcribed the solo that Scotty Moore played, which you'll learn to play too!
• Blue Suede Shoes - Carl Perkins
How could I possibly leave out this song? Carl was an amazing guitar player who inspired folks like George Harrison, Dave Edmunds and countless others. In this arrangement I've included Carl's solo, as well as adding one of my own. You'll be challenged, and the journey along the way will be well worth it.
Level: Both intermediate and advanced players will benefit from these lessons.
