In Guitars
Stella guitars were produced by the Oscar Schmidt company from around 1879 until 1939 when the company was then sold to Harmony. During this period Stella guitars were used by many blues and old-time country musicians as they were affordable and played well. These instruments had a particular sound which can be heard on the early recordings which initially came out on 78rpm records. Below you'll see a closeup of the headstock and the original sticker inside the guitar depicting some nice artwork and the company's name. Below that are some musicians from the twenties that may have used Stellas during their careers, and an advertisement from 1928. The guitar measures 13 1/4" at the lower bout and is a short scale length. Birch back and sides with a solid spruce top.
